Reflection of Week 5 and 6

At week 5, I felt like I had much more work to do because I was doing plenty of experiments with the fabrics and mood/vibe of the concept. I felt like I successfully found a theme, which is a really gothic and majestic theme which is inspired by both architecture and renaissance paintings. I derived the majesty and saint-like design features to be added to my collections from the way the paintings convey the subjects of the paintings. They always seem to be floating, very graceful and relaxed. I would continue to add more variations of concept pages. As I have explored some of the knitting techniques and done up a few knitted pieces, I would put them together in a collage to show my ideas and how I would implement them into the garment potentially.

With the experimentations that I am doing, I used several resources including Pinterest and some online websites. I also ordered several fabric samples from myfabric.co.uk just to see show the colours that I would be using and the kind of fabric that I am probably going to be using in the making of my garment.

Week 6, we are having our mid terms assessment and during class times we had a presentation to see how every one is progressing on their work. Every one’s work seems remarkable, which motivated me to move forward with the designs that I have drawn up to further develop them into something that I could work with and make it starting next week.

Some of the materials that I have chosen to explore in my concept pages would not work on a garment and therefore I have to think of fabrics that are more wearable to work with. Since architecture and paintings are hard to collage, I combined the features of architecture and the saint-like vibe and floating feelings that are conveyed through the material use through drawings. I really wanted to use materials that I have used for my collage pages to inspire me but I feel like it is really hard to put them together as the proportions would be wrong. Also, through the experimentations with the different knits, I found out the chunky knits are less time consuming as compared to the ones that I normally knit. I would most probably use chunky knits in my design as looks great for the distressed knit look too.
